Do you agree with his statement? or rather if not what do you not agree with what he said?

North Korea was created by Russia. Kim-Jong Un's father was born in Russia and supposedly spoke Russian as a child. His grandfather was installed by Stalin. The whole country of North Korea only exists because of the Soviet Union. It is a copy of Stalinist Russia, with the only difference that they never had a De-Stalinization. The Jurche-ideology is basically just a variant of "Socialism in one country".

"North Korea is illegitimate". Explain how. No, not being chosen by a glorified popularity contest with drooling 60IQ moron deciding the leader does not mean it is illegitimate. Make an actual argument. North Korea has a million reasons to be illegitimate. You idiotic ballot worshippers are quite possibly the dumbest people on the planet. Your god is dead, everyone has realized the experiment has failed except for your dumb ass. Keep pulling the weighted lever, keep throwing the weighted dice, I'm sure the house won't win this time!

I’m American. I don’t see the PEOPLE of Russia as enemies. In fact, I don’t know anyone that does. I wish, for them, that they could get this Cold War KGB stooge out of power and they could join the west. Here’s the thing: despite all the bullshit propaganda they hear about Americans, we’d rather see them be free. We don’t want to steal their resources, enslave them, ruin their culture, blah blah blah. I have a Russian friend that asks me questions all the time, and I answer honestly. They got confused because it wasn’t matching up at all with what they’d been told. I’ve offered to let them come here and stay with me, see for themself.

Hello Vlad, My name is Jean-Luc and I teach history in Montreal, Canada. I have a few questions about the state of relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and Putin's government (not just Patriarch Kyrill and his supporters). The Carnegie Endowment has been studying the ROC and found that a small minority of Metropolitans and many parish priests are oppossing the war and complaining that it has become difficult to morn the dead in the war more openly (see their April 2024 piece on their website). As you know 41 to 71 percent of Russians are Orthodox Christians, can Putin's and his government's indifference toward Russia's losses in the war except in recent weeks be harmful to Putin's legitimacy and most importantly in terms of support? Can it unite the opposition? Governments like the United States between 1965-1973 and the Soviet Union between 1980 and 1988 were forced to end unpopular wars. Can it have the same impact on the Putin's government?

Hi Vlad. Can we get your analysis on the meaning of Russian courts judging in absentia Ukrainian officials and military leaders for breaking Russian laws? For me, a Londoner, it seems utterly conceited and deranged to imply that Ukrainian officials fall under the purview of Russian law while operating within Ukraine and I cant imagine the Russians dont feel the same way, so what is that really all about? Is it some kind of tit for tat for Putin's warrant? Is it a Russian attempt at undermining the notion of Ukrainian statehood and sovereignty? Is it a domestic display aimed at proving that Russia is still in full control of the situation in Ukraine? Or is it something else entirely? Much appreciated!

This argument makes no sense. Negotiation with Russia is not a meaningful undertaking. Russia uses negotiation to make a gain which it cannot militarily as a strategic move to achieve its objective, victory over superior western military forces. This snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Id take the visit and N Korea very seriously. No its not tragic comic Korea can do a lot for Russia and vice versa. And its a horrible example of how successful and durable a totalitarian regime can be. Through all of this chat , many chats is maybe a rehearsal of contrary paradigms for international order articulated by Roosevelt and Churchill at the beginning of this long epoch that is ending. Churchill spoke of the " Orchestra of Europe". He struggled with Roosevelt to include France as a major nation in the post war order. He protected and made excuses for De Galle because he was a warrior and authentic French patriot. That vision is in many ways a precursor to the EU and a nato with strong European involvement. His more serious historical work was his biography of John Churchill, and there is deep thought and study and research. Its scholary not journalistic like most of his books. Not to disparage journalism. But its different. The wars of Queen Ann and William the Third take one into the origins of modern international law and conceptualization of soveriegnty Bodin , Grotius the University of Salamanca. And Queen Anns war with Louis the Fourteenth is dealing with conceptions of international order protection of small states etc first articulated by Sully and Richelieu esp. These proved to be faudulent . And the world was thrown into an overwhelming. We were tempted or Tories were tempted to retreat into little Englandism , and exagerated support for the Anglican Church. Its quite a story. But historians as Churchill certainly is get lost in and captured by their subjects of study. So id suggest the right which reveres Churchill , rightly dig a little deeper study him better. Churchill also had practical experience as a young politician in the late 19 th and frankly the failure of tory splendid isolation and a new brittle concept of Empire. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt are not ignorant people. FDR s mother was raised in Hong kong after the second opium war. His maternal grandfather was a merchant in Hong Kong then and just after the first opium war. I stand to be corrected but i believe his mother like Churchills mother spent considerable time in second Empire France , louche , corrupt , pleasant and headed for disaster at Sedan. Eleanor Roosevelt i think went to a french school in Switzerland and shes a figure in her own right as architect of the UN with FDR. Shes wife and niece of two of the greatest presidents of the 20 th c , if not the greatest. And well , who could compare to a Roosevelt they are descended from the founding bourgeoisie of New Amsterdam original land owners in Manhattan with centuries of American maritime experience which is well absolutely remarkable from the 17 th c on. But I dont have a good feel for him or understanding , Churchill is more familiar and more open. Who knows what Roosevelt the master politican who could herd cats and keep together the wildly improbable democratic party thought. But he had deep convictions deep faith in the value of USA political mythology which is different to Britains and Canadas. Both Teddy Roosevelt and FDR were under secretaries of the navy. Anyway Britain can not be the USA which is and always has been a continental and maritime power in a unique way. The USA can abandon this world system which resembles high liberal victorian Englands policy of free trade , open seas. And it can persue a successful more closed more continental economy. Canadas job is to cling to the USA and get included in a new more self contained USA system. But its not at all obvious what Britain should do. Except the old English Speaking countries NZ Australia Canada and Britain should try to hold together some and make settlement and travel etc between our countries easier. The USA really is somewhat different as Churchill certainly knew. Beyond that it is so huge that interaction influence with it even when its benign is difficult.

@8:45 I wouldn't discount that claim, DPRK managed to keep the US at bay from the Bush to trump years without becoming the next Iraq. Not only that but you talk about the Butcha massacres as despotic, yet the only reason DPRK exists is because 'the west ™' tried to install a dictator in Korea post WW2 resulting in the deaths of 4 million people and a divided country that they can conveniently bring up as a national threat when it suites the bureaucracy. It makes sense the two have remained close (NK/DPRK) it was Stalin and Mao after all that helped them get the Japanese armies in WW2 out and form their state as a result of the Korean war. I'm not agreeing with either narrative but you leave out some important context that pro-Russia types would rightfully include.

The concern for the west should be the extent Russia, China and North Korea might align their cyber attacks on Western democratic institutions, public infrastructure and businesses. Given the impact of sanctions on Russia, Putin will be desperate to find means to recover the money which has now been frozen as part of sanctions. Getting China to ramp up its military presence in the South China Sea and else where will also help stretch US resources to the maximum.

I can see slight problem trying to politicise all of the Russian population with some soviet theme. Trouble is many of those Younger folk have experienced better times, and now Putin wants them to adhere to a more draconian future just obeying and accepting his dictats, that is not going to be in any way benevolent. Maybe ''the president knows what he is doing'', could start to be challenged in a more vocal way.
